Basic Black Color Coach Combination

So, this is a color combination I would have never thought of; however, I actually like it.  I had some scrap Old Olive patterned paper and wanted to try a "different" combination, so I pulled out my Color Coach (which I don't use that often sad to say).  I really didn't want to use the two combinations listed on the back of the Old Olive card, so I just flipped through all of the cards until I found an interesting combination using Old Olive.  This combination is actually on the back of the Basic Black card.

I think the trick to making some of these combinations work and not look so "in your face" is to balance the colors so that they are appealing.  I tried a Basic Black card base and an Old Olive card base and they were too harsh.  The Daffodil Delight base let the Old Olive and Basic Black "pop" without being too heavy.

Here's what I used:

Stamps:
None

Paper:
Daffodil Delight
     4-1/4x8-1/2Card Base
4x4-1/4 Framed Tulip Layer (I trimmed it down after embossing)
     Scraps for Daisy (2 layers)
Basic Black
     3-1/8x3-1/8 Layer
     Scrap for Flower Circle
Old Olive DSP (from an old Christmas pack)
     3x3 Layer

Ink:
None
Accessories:
Framed Tulips Embossing Folder (Occasions Mini)
Daisies #2 Die
3/4" Circle Punch
Antique Brads
Stampin' Dimensionals

This is the first time I've used an Antique Brad.  I have two containers of them and haven't been able to bring myself to using one.  Do you ever feel that way about your "special" supplies?  I'm really bad about hoarding embellishments and fresh, new uncut patterned paper.  Ha!  I think I'll make a conscious effort to share the wealth rather than keep all of these goodies to myself!

Take care, and have a wonderful weekend!
Beth

  1. Beautiful card! I love the colors. I'm bad about hoarding also, but I'm trying to do better.
