Birthday Card for A Special Friend

This is the card I sent to a very special friend, so I wanted to make a special card.  I've been wanting to try the "Herringbone" technique ever since I saw a tutorial on Dawn Olchefske's blog.  Okay, I just noticed that her post was October of 2009!  Talk about putting something off...oh well, I'm glad I remembered where to find the tutorial at least.  I'll definitely be making more.  It's not hard at all (but looks it!), it uses scraps of patterned paper and most of all, it's fun!

One tip I have for you is to make the "herringbone" piece larger than you need and then cut it down equally on all sides after applying the strips of patterned paper.  For instance, make the original piece 5-1/2x4-1/4 and then cut off 1/4 inch of each side.  Your herringbone piece will then be 5x3-3/4 and you can layer it on a 5-1/4x4 piece as on this card.  I like cutting it down after piecing the paper because then I have nice, clean edges.

The colors for this card are Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight and Whisper White which were determined by the patterned paper I used - Beyond the Garden.

I hope you're having a great week.  Thanks for stopping by!
