Holiday Catalog Sneak Peek

This card is made with the new Owl Occasions stamp set in the upcoming Holiday Catalog (customers can order August 1st).  The stamp set is adorable, but once I got it I didn't quite know what I wanted to do with it.  I started out by copying part of a card on page 13 of the Holiday Catalog and then it evolved from there.

To make the owl, I stamped it first using Soft Suede ink (it was too murky using a marker).  I then stamped it again on scrap paper using Gumball Green ink and cut out the center part.

It may be a little difficult to see in the picures, but the Cherry Cobbler label is paper pierced around the outside edge thanks to the new Festive Paper-Piercing Pack also in the new Holiday Catalog.  Have you tried Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack that's in the main catalog?  They're a lot of fun to use, but here are a couple of tips:
  1. I found that my paper would slide a little underneath the paper-piercing template no matter how tightly I tried to hold it down.  To fix the problem, just add a little Dotto (removable adhesive) to your card stock so it will adhere to the template and not move around.
  2. It's easy to skip a hole or two when you're paper piercing.  Before you take the template and card stock apart, flip it over so you can see the back side of the card stock and whether or not you've missed any holes.  It's a little tough to try to line it back up once you've separated the card stock and template.
I also discovered a new tool (not realy new, but I hadn't ordered it) that should be on your must-have list....Clear-Mount Perfectly Placed Guides.  What took me so long to order these???  They're wonderful!  It's difficult to line our labels up perfectly with the rubber image on the back side especially with words and phrases.  With the clear-mount guides, you line up the bottom edge of the "rubber" words with one of the grid lines.  Then, just use the grid line (not the label) to align your image when you stamp.  I used one for the "Merry Christmas" on that tiny piece of paper and I got it straight the first time.

Here's everything I used:
