Simply Sketched Birthday

Do you remember "Perfect Plum?"  Did you know that Stampin' Up! carries "Perfect Plum" inks and card stock as part of its core line?  The reason I ask is that we (I) tend to totally forget about this gorgeous color!  I find myself using DSP and working with the colors included in those rather than venturing out into big world of color.

Needless to say, this card is made using Perfect Plum card stock.  It's a simple card, but packs some punch all its own.   Just look at how short my supply list is!  It would be extremely easy to convert this to a sympathy or get well card.

Tip #1:  Cut the oval out first and THEN run it back through the Big Shot to emboss it.  If you emboss it first, the raised embossing will be flattened somewhat when you run it back through the Big Shot to cut out the oval.  Whenever possible, cut first and then emboss.

Tip #2:  Cut the white piece that goes underneath smaller than the embossed piece.  Adhere the white card stock to the card front with just a little adhesive (or removable adhesive like Dotto).  Place the embossed layer over top (don't adhere) to get the correct placement for your stamped images.  Once you have your images stamped, apply some stronger adhesive to the back of the white card stock and adhere the embossed piece over top using dimensionals.  Why use removable adhesive on the white piece?  Because I tend to mess up, and I don't want to ruin a card base.  Removable adhesive gives me some flexibility.

Here's everything I used:
