"File Folder" Birthday Card

The ability to make this file folder card with the new Envelope Punch Board is what sold me!  I used this video by Patty Bennett to make my card.  In the video she mentions cutting off 3/4" or 1/2" from the front of the card.  For mine, I cut off 1/2".  I originally tried 3/4" and the left-hand tab seemed just a bit too low.  Next time, I may even try cutting off a less to get the top of the lower tab lined up with the upper edge.

Here are a few other tips:

-Fold your card in half before trimming the front piece.

-For the top of the back of the card, I embossed a short way down to give it more interest.

-I used strips of doubled-sided tape on the black strip of card stock to adhere the ruffled trim.  I didn't wrap the trim around the back of the card stock because I felt it might make the piece too bulky.  I just trimmed the edges off with scissors.  Also, the ruffled trim seems to lay down better if you stretch it just a little when you're adhering it to the card stock.

-I also recommend adding your patterned paper to your card base before using the Envelope Punch Board to make your tabs.  It's easier to make sure everything is lined up properly.

-Add a "double stack" of dimensionals to the bottom layer of the flower to make sure sits above the ruffled trim.  Place the dimensionals at the top of the flower and the bottom of the flower.  Your goal is to have flower that isn't "humped up" in the middle.

-Wider DMC floss works great with buttons.  Since we don't have ivory baker's twine, I used some floss from my cross-stitching days.

Here's everything I used:
