Good Thoughts

Can you guess which DSP I used for the background paper?  If you guessed "Retro Fresh" you are correct!  You can't even tell that the pattern on the back is actually Tangerine Tango, Baked Brown Sugar, So Saffron and Coastal Cabana.  Retro Fresh has several gender neutral and masculine designs, but as you can see you can go girly with it, too!

I wanted to share a tip with you about coloring a word stamp with markers.  I find it difficult to get a good, deep image from lighter colors such as Coastal Cabana.  So, I inked the stamp (basically just the "thoughts your way" piece) using my Coastal Cabana stamp pad.  Then, I used a paper towel to remove any stray Coastal Cabana ink from the other words.  Some people use a Blender Pen to remove the extra ink, but I just use the folded edge of a dry paper towel.  Next, ink the other words with markers starting with the lightest color first - which in this case is the Strawberry Slush.  Below is a picture that shows the difference.  I used markers for the image on the left, but I used my Coastal Cabana stamp pad, Strawberry Slush marker and Basic Black marker for the image on the right.

My next tip is for making a banner that is longer than the Banner Framelits.  I measured the width of the cut-out (turn it over and use the side that actually cuts...not the outer edge of the framelit).  In this case, the width was 1-7/16 inches (one tick down from 1-1/2 inches).  The length of my strip was probably about 4-1/4 inches.  Place the paper in the framelit as shown below.

To avoid an ugly crease at the top of the banner at the top edge of the framelit, position your top cutting pad as shown below.  Yes, my cutting pads look horrible, but they still work just fine. :)

  1. Thank you for that very clever tip on extending the length of the banners. That is going to come in handy!
