Now, on to the cards!

Inspiration:  For the next four months I have the honor of being part of the SU! Creative Crew Design Team over on Splitcoaststampers.  I'll be sharing my projects with you here, but be sure to check out the beautiful cards by all of the team members here and then play along!  The theme for January is "Take Flight" (think birds, butterflies, hot air balloons, planes...even bugs!).

This particular challenge was to make a simple card and then a second stepped-up version.  I chose the new Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and thinlits.  I didn't realize how much I would love this set until I started stamping with it. You can either color in the wings or there's a stamp to fill in the wings.  The stamp image makes it look like you watercolored the wings!

Tips (Stepped-Up Card Above):
  • I used the stamp to fill in the wings rather than watercoloring them.  I first inked up the stamp with Pool Party ink and then inked the edges with Island Indigo ink.  You can use a sponge dauber to feather out the line between the two colors or, if you're impatient like me, you can use your finger since it's handy.
  • The Pool Party strips are 4-1/4x1-1/4 inches each. I laid my card base on grid paper (held it in place with some post-it tape) to make sure I had the strips evenly spaced. I started at the bottom leaving 3/4", attached the top piece 3/4" from the top and then centered the middle piece between the two.
  • I added the detailed die cut dragonfly underneath for some added interest (see picture below). The dragonfly on top is attached with a little multipurpose glue in the center (glue dots would work well, too) with a dimensional under each wing placed close to the center of the dragonfly.
  • The small splatters were made with an aqua painter and ink from the lid of the Pool Party ink pad.
  • I placed a glue dot behind the ribbon (where you would normally hold it with your finger) to hold it in place while I tied the bow.
  • The Whisper White paper is attached with dimensionals.
  • Clear Wink of Stella adds sparkle to the wings.
